David was born and raised in Raleigh, NC, graduating from NCSU in 1970 with a BA in Economics. He has been a member of the PGA of America since 1976 and worked as a Club Professional from 1973 to 1985, hosting numerous tournaments including the ACC Golf Championship and the NC Amateur Championship.

Since 1985, David has worked in golf management with a primary focus on golf course construction and course maintenance. Over the past twenty five years David has been involved, in various capacities, in over 30 golf course construction projects, including Bank Construction Inspector, Project Manager/Owners Representative for eighteen new golf course constructions and remodels, as well as Consultant and/or Grow in Manager for eight other new constructions. (New projects include The Currituck Club, Old Chatham Golf Club and The Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University.)

During this period, David has also managed and supervised over twenty golf course maintenance programs in the Southeast and Texas, with annual maintenance budgets ranging from $350,000 to well over $1,000,000.
